Employee Discrimination: Failure to Promote

Discrimination Suit awards five-years wages to employee for wrongful discrimination against employee.

Here, an employee of  Peoples National Bank of Washington prevailed in a discrimination action against the bank for failure to promote the employee. The employee was a Cambodian born and highly educated individual.

The employee had special training in speaking English, served in the U.S. Military and was employed by the bank as a loan coordinator in the consumer credit division.

This employee applied at the bank for several open positions for which he was well qualified. On each occasion, he was denied the promotions and refused the positions.

After this employee was denied several promotions, he became severely ill and physically disabled. His doctors testified that the numerous denials of promotion at work contributed to his physical disability.

The Court awarded the employee five years of salary for the bank’s discrimination against this employee. Phanna Xieng v. Peoples National Bank of Washington (Court of Appeals of Washington, Case No. 27067-2-I).
